Is Oversharing a Problem? Try Penzu
Share |

"We live in public" isn't just the name of a film; it's an Internet truism.

For the past ten years, more and more of us have been using blogging platforms to share the details of our personal and professional lives. With the advent of microblogging, the sharing has escalated to include the most intimate, immediate, and even mundane details of one's daily grind. When pressures abound, venting online is second nature; but oversharing can bear disastrous consequences. The cure? Penzu's private-by-design, sharable-by-choice blogging software.

Unlike most modern CMSs (and actually somewhat reminiscent of dotcom-era systems such as Livejournal), Penzu focuses on personal journaling and privacy. The company, a small Canadian outfit which launched last summer, says its posts are private by default.

An in spite of its focus on privacy, the system is hardly antisocial. Flickr photos can be imported, and each entry comes with an optional URL for sharing on other networks.

The new Penzu Pro features, available for the relatively low price of $19 a year, are pretty useful, as well. With the free version, users can create, save, search and share journal entries. The paid version of the software allows users to also import entires from just about any kind of blog (in case oversharing has been a problem in your past) and export Penzu entries, as well as giving users a slew of customization options, offsite backups and military-grade 256-bit AES encryption for maximum data protection.

And just in time for the holidays, Penzu Pro is giftable for the oversharer in your network.

5 Ways That Cars Are Getting Smarter
Share |

In the emerging Internet of Things, everyday objects are becoming networked. Recently we looked at smart clothing, today we explore the world of smart cars. From Formula One to cheap family cars, all kinds of vehicles are utilizing sensors and advanced technology nowadays. While some of the features we discuss below aren't connected to the Internet, yet, all of them are using sensors. And so we can easily imagine the day when most cars are connected to the network.

We begin our post looking at the state of the art in car sensor technology: Formula One manufacturer McLaren's 300 live, simultaneous data streams. We end with a look at family car Alhambra's more humble sensor technology. In between we have the latest from Chrysler, General Motors and Ford.

300 Sensors on a Formula One Car

The latest McLaren Formula One car, as driven by current world champion Jenson Button, relies on feedback during the race from 300 data streams - via miniaturized sensors on the car and the driver. This data tells Button's team how well he and his car are performing. This system is called "live telemetry" and it sends data such as the heart rate of the driver and the fuel level in the car.

This same technology is now being implemented in healthcare. Explained the Times Online:

"If we can track the heart rate of an elite athlete,/> [...]

What’s Coming Up Next for Social CRM and Enterprise 2.0?
Share |

Picture taken from a desert safari in Dubai

We’ve talked about a lot of topics around the Social CRM and Enterprise 2.0 space and I think it’s about time we get a bit deeper into both of these areas and explore how they fit together.  I get a bit frustrated when I hear people talking about SCRM and E2.0 from the same high level point of view all the time (I’m also guilty of this).  So, what I want to do moving forward is really push the envelope.  I’m not saying I’m going to be right or wrong but I am hoping that what I write and talk about will make you think differently about both E2.0 and SCRM.  Let’s take a look at some of the important and interesting things we’ve covered so far and then build some sort of a future roadmap for what we should cover in the future.

Here’s what we covered so far:

Enterprise 2.0
  • We put together our ammunition for the E2.0 space with a collection of over 50+ Enterprise 2.0 examples and case studies to help justify the need for these initiatives.
  • We explored [...]

LiveWorld Launches Facebook Forum 2.0 For Brands
    Share |

Social networking marketing firm LiveWorld has launched Facebook Forum 2.0, aimed at helping brands deepen their level of engagement with their fans.

WebProNews spoke to Peter Friedman, CEO and Chairman of LiveWorld about the launch of Facebook Forum 2.0.

Friedman said LiveWorld created Facebook Forum 2.0 in response to its clients wanting to achieve relationship engagement on Facebook. "Facebook represents a huge marketing opportunity for brands, but the typical implementations have fleeting promotional-like results, not the true engagement desired," Friedman said.

"Facebook Forums creates a genuine conversational dynamic among and with customers with it's structured layout, multiple topics, rich media, widgets to feature content, power moderation tools and more detailed reporting."

    Facebook-Forum

Facebook Forum works by sitting on a brand's apps tab. Features include direct linking to the user's Facebook profile, publishing a user's posts to the brand's Wall and publishing the user's posts to their Facebook Activity Feed, which is then shared with the user's friends, with links back to the brand's page.

Friedman said the main advantage of a brand using Facebook Forum is deeper customer engagement among and with customers due to the deeper conversational environment. Also, it provides the ability to create a positive experience for customers and a manageable page for the brand due to power moderation tools.

"Text-only posts that are in a long list format and random in their organization don't engage fans in conversations and don't give the brand a way to focus the discussion," s/> [...]
